To all of you out there that follow my sign language ministry, I guess it’s time I gave you guys a little update, since it has been a while since I did.

Thank you all for praying for my deaf friend back in January when she was beaten by 3 men. I was able to go see her at the hospital and she looked so bad on the outside, but on the inside, there was a light that still shined bright. She was so happy to see me and I was so happy to see her. She is living two hours away now, so I rarely get to see her. Seeing her that day made my heart happy and sad. When I saw Rorysong, I told her that when she returned to her home village, she would be teaching with me. Rorysong, I learned later, may not be returning to the village. Her family may not let her. I asked some members of the church if they would like me to continue teaching and one lady told me, “We want to learn, because we want to move forward.”

Please pray for me as I continue to learn sign language as my foreign language in school. Pray for the people in the church where I am teaching, pray that they would stay committed. Pray that Rorysong will be allowed to return so that I can start teaching with her by my side. Pray for the deaf of Lesotho, that they may “hear” the gospel.

Until ALL have SEEN,
Grace

Ups and Downs of Life on the Mission Field.

Life on the mission field definitely has it’s ups and downs. There have been times were we have stood on the mountain tops and times where we have walked through the valleys. Through every circumstance God has proven Himself faithful to us. He has also received the glory in it all. The most recent up was a baby named Anna Grace. A old woman, in one of our villages, had a grandchild on June 25th. ‘Me MaBusa asked my mom to name the baby. We named her Anna Grace! One week later, when Jim, Sara Jo, and Abby were here, we went to the same village and on that day, July 2nd, Anna Grace’s mom accepted Christ!! It was a very happy day. That is one of the many ups.

The latest down happened on Monday, September 26th. I know Mom has already written about this, but here it is from my perspective.

My Monday, September 26th, 2011.

I planned to get up early on Monday, I needed to practice for a couple of test and do my devotion before school. When Anna and I woke up at five it was unusual because Mom and Dad were both awake too. As I got up, I was still half asleep, half awake. I heard mom rushing out the door and I went to see what was going on. One of the pastor’s wife had had a baby and the baby was not doing well at all. Malapo had been calling us since 2 that morning, but we did not get the calls. Mom went to check out the baby. When I saw the car pull in our driveway when she got back I wanted to rush outside, but I was stopped at the door by my dad who told me the baby had died. As I stood in disbelief I wondered why that would happen.

The night before we had watched Louie Giglio, at our family house church. His talk was about our lives being interrupted by things that happen. He said that way too often we ask the wrong questions when our lives get interrupted. We often ask God “Why is this happening to me?” “When is it going to be over?” He said that we need to ask “How are You going to get the glory?” “Is there something You want to do through me in this circumstance?” My life was definitely interrupted but not even close to as much as that pastor’s family.

A while later my Dad and I went to pick the family up to take them down the mountain to their home village. The only reason I was going was to get my braces fixed. As we were leaving, Malapo wanted to stop at the clinic that was about 5 minutes from our house. As he went into the clinic and we waited for him to come out I sat there thinking….why? Why would this happen? Then I remembered Louie’s sermon. I realized that we aren’t always meant to know why. I replayed the whole scene in my mind. I wondered, “If the phone would have been working would the baby have survived?”

When Malapo finally came out of the clinic, about 10 minutes later, he was carrying a box in his hand. When the mother of the baby saw the box, knowing that the baby was in the box and was dead, I could hear her crying. It absolutely broke my heart. As I rode four hours down the mountain, with a dead baby in the back of our truck, I sat in silence. I could see, out of the corner of my eye Malapo turning to look at the box. Every now and then I would hear him moan as he sat there in disbelief that he had lost his little boy.

After a long day, I was in bed and I was praying and I realized that there was nothing I or my mom could have done different. If God wanted that baby to live, it would have.

On Wednesday Malapo showed up at pastor training. I was so happy to see him there, but you could tell even through his smile that he was hurting deeply. He told us that his wife was not doing well, was in the hospital, and asked us to pray for her. That night we got a text message from him that said “Me Mary is out from the hospital. They said she must return Friday, but she’s better…but for me the picture of my son is always in my mind.  It is unforgettable.”

Our hearts hurt for that family, but we are praying that God will continue to ease the pain in their hearts and give them comfort. Thank you for all your prayer, and please continue to pray for Malapo’s family.

It’s been a while since I last blogged, between school and ministry there is not much time.

The only reason dad blogs more often is because he stays up till MIDNIGHT blogging!
Anyway….a lot has gone on since Feburary. Which is when I last blogged.
I am going to tell ya’ll about my favorite thing that has happened.
About a month ago, went to a mission meeting where everyone in our part of Sub-Saharan Africa gets together and
has a huge meeting. Okay the parents have meetings, the kids do VBS amd the youth have there own thing.
Anna and I were in the youth group this year.  We had alot of fun!!! I mean TONS!!
We has the coolest volounteers. There names were Will, Nick, and Melody.
Will, basically led all the Bible studies. He was so nice and so much fun to hang out with.
After Bible study we would break up into 3 groups.
The guys 7th to 8th grade would go with Nick.
All the girls went with Melody.
All the rest of the guys went with Will.
We did a study on the Disciples, and how their live compare to ours on the mission field.
At group time we went over questions about the lessons and  got to know eachother a little more,
and we had a prayer time as well.
My favorite time was the group time with the girls. Everyone was so nice and we really got close to eachother.
The last day we were suppose to answer 3 questions. The last question was we had to talk about what ever else we thought we needed to.
We pretty much got that one covered. We talked the entire time. We sang Vegetales songs and we drew on eachothers arms. It was really a good time.
We really had alot of fun. Everyone was so nice and they really kept us laughing.
The entire youth class, about 21 of us, all agreed that Will, Nick, and Melody come back next AMTM
and rhe next…and the next…and every single AMTM.
So Will, Nick and Melody thank you for such a fun week.
The Wedding…by Grace Flora

February 7, 2011

I think I will list the top ten things about the wedding that I liked, ending with my very favorite…

10-dancing…dancing…and more dancing

9- “the dance”-the one that Anna and I had to do

8-the music…two guys played the keyboard and 2 ladies blew whistles ( a lot)

7-the singing-it was all about Jesus! My friend Lucy, has a beautiful voice, and she sang a song about God being faithful-everyday and every hour of every day

6-the bride…she was so pretty!

5-taking “de photos” with the family and being included as part of the family

4-Tsepo and his gold suit

3-the grand entrance with the horses!

2-my dress…I love my dress! It is long, sparkly shoes, sparkly jewelry, sparkly hair….sparkly sparkly sparkly

1-being chosen to be a part of such an amazing worship service/wedding was an honor. I love Tsepo for choosing me to be in it.

I know this blog may be a little out of date. Finding time to blog is a little hard. Keeping up with school and my guitar practice, but I finally found the time to write a blog during school.
As you know just last month we a a team of  University Students from Botswana come and stay with us for a week.
They were so much fun!! They did a great job on helping and teaching in the villages. They sang songs and
even taught me one of the song. They were constantly making us laugh! We pony treked into four new villages.
When they first got here it was kinda weird. We did not know anyone except for a girl named Keely Hart. She is a journeygirl and she works with the students. Everyone else were total strangers, but not for long
by the next day we were all like brothers and sisters. On big family!! It was so neat to see African
national sharing the gosple with other African nationals. To top it all off the weather was great!
I loved having the Botswana students here, but most of all I loved seeing them in the villages.
Special thanks to the Botswana Team…Andrew,Michael,Wazer,Walker, Noma, and Keely.
I miss you guys and you guys are awesome.
Can’t wait to see some of you again in May.

Winter is Coming!

April 28, 2010

Hey Friends and Family!

Winter is coming to Lesotho and boy am I excited. Mom says I am excited most days about something. Just a few days ago there was snow at the pass, it wasn’t a lot of snow, but still….SNOW IS SNOW! The only bad part about winter coming is that it is very cold and we are cooped up inside all day. Other than that things are great!

I would love to hear from you guys. Here is my email address:

Homeschool
Mom is planning on homeschooling us through the month of May.  At the end of May, my oldest brother Jim, is coming…then…no more homeschool until August!  This week in English, we learned how to put stories in sequence.  Mom made Anna and I write the directions or steps to milking a cow…the problem is, neither of us knew how to milk a cow. Mom and Dad thought mine was hilarious.  Let’s see what you think…
This is How You Milk a Cow…even though I don’t how to.
1.  First you make sure you and the cow are comfortable with each other.
2.  Next you sit by the cow and keep it calm.
3.  Then you get a bucket and squeeze the little thingie under the cow.
4.  Last take the milk inside, boil it, and enjoy!

Another assignment we had in our English class was to write a cinquain.  For those of you who have no idea what a cinquain is, it is a poem that has five lines.  The first line is the title written in one word.  The second line has two words, describing words, line 3 tells about the subject, the 4th line is a sentence telling about the title, and finally the last line is word telling about the title again.  Here is mine:

What Pets do MK’s Have When There is NO Pet Store?
October 9, 2009
Most kids I know like pets.  In America the most common pet is a dog, but in Africa it’s a little different.  After living in Africa for 7 months, we now have a wide assortment of God’s creatures.  We thought long and hard about names for our creatures, because they are so special.  Here is a list of their names, can you guess what they are?….

Lottie Moon, Lottie for short
Calvin
Arlene

Speedy
Sugardaddy
Junior
Colonel Klink
Moe

Bob
Lizzie
Archibald
Prince
and finally Sebastein
Ok, your time is up.  Muffin is the family weiner dog.  Lottie is my dad’s goat dog-Border Collie, Calvin and Arlene are our chickens, Slow, Poke, Speedy,Sugardaddy, and Junior are snails we caught in our yard.  Moe, Larry, Curly, and Bob are silkworms that we brought home from a friend’s house in South Africa…we are waiting for them to grow through one more stage so that they will spin a silk cocoon.  Archibald is a red, hairy caterpillar with a very bad attitude that mom found in the backyard under a rock.  Colonel Klink is our locust pupa, Lizzie is a beautiful lizard that was climbing on the rock wall.  Sebastein is a crab we found at the river…today he crawled out of his bucket and we lost him for about 15 minutes.  Me’ Thato our house helper was hysterical….she was hiding and hopping around the house.  Last but not least is Prince.  Prince is a tree frog that is a beautiful shade of green and believe it or not I actually found it and caught it myself.  So, wouldn’t you call that a wide assortment of pets?  If you ever get to come to visit us in Africa, you might want to be careful…we might catch you and put you in a jar and call you our pet!

Just 3 Questions…August 11, 2009

Where has God brought us?  Why are we here?  What are we doing?

Hey guys!  What’s Up?  As you can see, I have 3 questions in my title.  Where has God brought us?  Why are we here?  What are we doing?  Well, God has brought us to the Maluti Mountains of Lesotho, Africa.  We are here because God called us to tell the Basotho about Jesus, and we are reaching the Basotho for Christ’s Kingdom.  One of my teachers when we were at our 40/40 orientation in Zambia taught me that God didn’t just call my parents, He called me too.

Sitting on Top of the World

Lately, my parents like to go on drives in the mountains.  They are trying to find people and things like villages, farmers, children, and shepherds.  A few days ago, it felt like we were on top of the world.  We almost went to the very top of a mountain.  Cool, huh?  We fed shepherds and threw little kids some candy.  Oh how I wish you could have seen the smiles on their faces.  It has been a blast!  I am so glad that we answered when God called our family to Africa.

I am loving Africa!  It is a blast.  Every morning and every night so far, I hear my mom and dad practicing their Sesotho words.  It is pretty funny to hear my dad correct my mom and then she corrects him.  It is really funny to watch and listen.  I have met many new people.  Today I am going to a friend’s house.  Her dad is a pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship.  While we are playing with our friends, my mom and dad are going to a village to tell people about Christ.  Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that I have climbed 2 mountains so far.  I LOVE AFRICA!

The Most Important Things...

There are lots of important things in life.  Some things are more important than others.  Here are a few of the most important things in my life…

Jesus

Bible

Family

Friends

What makes all these things so important to me?  Jesus is important because He died on the cross for my sins and He first loved me.  The bible is important to me because it tells me about Jesus and His love for all sinners.  I love my family.  They are important to me because they love me, take care of me, and most importantly love God first.  Friends are important because they care about me, are always there for you, and are fun!

Only 12 days and we leave for Africa!  I can’t wait!

My Testimony

When I was 6 years old I became a Christian.

It began by me telling my dad I wanted to be a Christian,

he said okay, go get your mom.

She was upstairs folding clothes.

I said mom we need to talk, she said okay.

So they talked with me, then prayed with me and

I became a Christian. Now I am going to the mission field

Iam going to be a missionary in

LESOTHO,AFRICA!

GOD HAS DONE AMAZING THINGS!

My Feelings…

When I am at home sometimes I feel happy, sad, upset.  I miss my family, my church, my friends, and my house.  I want to be 2 places at the same time.  Home and Richmond, VA.  I like it here but I like it more in Missouri because that is where my family, friends, and church are.  And my favorite food places. 🙂

What I’m Thinking…

Yesterday we flew to Richmond, VA.  Flying is FUN!  Flying is COOL!  When we got to the ILC (International Learning Center) I got off the bus that brought us from the airport to where my new home is.  We grabbed our bags and took them into our “quad”.  Anna, Bekah, and I set up our room.  In our room there are 3 beds, 1 bunkbed and 1 twin bed for Bekah.  I get to sleep on the top!  Tomorrow, I start school at the Children’s Resource Center.  Mr. Dustin is my teacher.  He used to be a missionary.

Tomorrow night is GA’s at Hamlin.

Hi GA’s!  I got to measure myself against a poster of Lottie Moon.  It was her actual size. She was little!  Allison, Lottie was about as tall as you are. I miss you all!

I am a GA.  I have been a GA for 4 years.  I have read a lot about MKs.  I have learned a lot about MKs.  I never dreamed that I would actually be one!  Things are a little bananas at our house!  When I look around I see empty rooms, boxes, and suitcases.  This Sunday will be our last day at our church.  This makes me kinda sad and kinda happy.  Sad because I will be leaving my friends.  Happy because I am going to Africa!

Tuesday the Clinton’s Came!
I love the Clintons!  On Tuesday, we met them for lunch and then they came and spent the night with us.  Taylor has been a very special friend to me since we were 5 years old.  We are only 2 weeks apart in age.  We are both “preacher’s kids” and have spent LOTS of time at church.  It is always fun when we are together. I also like Douglas and Jackson, most of the time.  🙂  I always love Rhonda and kinda like Doug :).
Wednesday, I went to Willard to spend the day with Stephanie!
I love Stephanie!
When we first came to Hamlin, Stephanie was waiting for me!  We loved each other from the very start.  I love to go to her house.  I love to play outside in her yard and play on the hay bales.  Her Aunt Karen is my GA leader.  Her grandma and grandpa let me call them grandma and grandpa.  I love her mom Ralene and her dad Steve.
Today was Story Day!
I love the STORY family!
Addison is my littlest, bestest friend (not including family of course!)
Erica is my favorite church buddy.  She always has time to talk to me and to listen to me.  Grant is a lot like my dad.  He likes to talk about the bible and church stuff.  (bor-or-or-ing).  We love to have them come to our house.
Friends are very important.
Friends are always there.
Friends love at all times.
Friends have fun together.
Friends are forever.
I will miss my friends very much, but I will make new friends.  I wonder if it will be easy.  I wonder if I will love them as much as I love you.

If I could give the children of Lesotho anything for Christmas I would give them…
  •  a Bible so that they could learn about the wonderful miracles that Jesus Christ has done!
  • a family to the orphans
  • clothes so that they could stay warm
  • Polly Pockets, so that they could have something to play with
  • a pillow and blanket…I love mine!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I’m a MK!

Being a missionary kid is going to be…

fun

exciting

oh my goodness!

different

It is hard to say good-bye…
This week has been lots of fun!  I have been able to spend time with some of my favorite people.  These people are very special to me.  I will miss them so much.
Sunday Evening-Dinner with the Dales
Bekah took my family out to eat after my parents spoke at Glenstone Baptist Church.  I love the Dales!
Claire Dale
Jenni Dale-oops! Wessley

Debbie “Mardel” Dale
Thank you for loving me!
I wonder if I will love them as much as I love you.
nativity
If I could give the children of Lesotho anything for Christmas I would give them…
  •  a Bible so that they could learn about the wonderful miracles that Jesus Christ has done!
  • a family to the orphans
  • clothes so that they could stay warm
  • Polly Pockets, so that they could have something to play with
  • a pillow and blanket…I love mine!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Love, Grace

  1. Graci Goo, I love you! Although I will miss you more than words can express, I can express how proud I am of you and your choice to embrace your new mission. 9. Gracie, That first time I saw you, little did I know. You were a little, bitsy puny baby girl. I was so happy to have you. Now as you have grown up, my what our Lord has in store for you. I believe that it was His plan all along. You had to come to mommy and daddy so that you could grow and be ready to do the work He has for you. I do not think He will be disappointed. You have grown into the lovely young lady He meant for you to be so that you could do the job He has for you. I love you and will miss you, but I know that the work ahead for your family is the most important thing now. Love, Grany

  21. Gracie Lou,

How are you? I miss you! Student Ensembles won’t be the same without you and Anna! It is pelting down sleet right now! We already know that we don’t have to go to school tomorrow before Wheel of Fortune came on! How is Virginia?

    Love,
    Susie

  22. Hey, how is Richmond are you driving the people crazy? Ha, ha, ha!!! Willard and Springfield are out of school because of snow, sleet and ice…you would need to be dressed like the picture above. Stephanie, Hannan, Karen and myself played outside for awhile. They went sledding, and we walked to the pond and to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s. While we were there we feed the horse and the cows for Grandpa. Stephanie sure wanted to see you one more time and kept waking up Sunday night thinking about if you were getting up, heading to the airport yet, etc…
She feel a little better because of the webcam, although I’m not sure when we’ll get one especially because of the weather. We’ll let you know. Love and miss you.

  23. Gracie,
We will not be having GA’s tonight. As Ralene said, we are out of school because of ice, sleet and snow. I will print off your message to read to them in case they don’t read it on their own. So glad you got a top bunk!!! Pray for you daily.
    Love you.
    Karen

  24. And I thought I was short, but guess not compared to Lottie Moon. Have fun at school and don’t give your new teacher too much trouble.

    Love you and miss you,

    Debbie D

  25. Gracie, so glad things are going well for the new MK on the block (or is it the quad). Let us know about your new school experience and new friends.
Were you surprised at how small Lottie Moon was? Just remember size doesn’t matter when you are serving your Master. Lottie showed
all of us that. You go girl!

I think your bunk would get a little crowded for a sleep-over, bet we could sleep on the floor tho. I’m glad you have your own bed.

Keep blogging and sharing. Your friend, DeDe

  26. Hey Gracie,
I was really happy being able to hang out with ya’ll one more time!! I pray for you and everyone everyday!! I am really going to miss all of you 😦 especially during the hosanna project! Well love you guys!!

I don’t think I ever thanked you for calling Brandon on his birthday. That was so SWEET, just like you!!!! Keep learning and growing at school. Let us know how God is moving in your life.

    Love,
    Susie

  28. Gracie Lou,

I passed you while running today! OK, it was on the WiiFit, but it was exciting! I really enjoy working out and seeing my little friends! You help me get motivated to exercise! Thanks! It also helps me think about when you made your characters and the fun we had.

    Love,
    Susie

  29. Hi Gracie,

    Jordan

  31. Dear Gracie,

Hi, how are you. I miss you very much. I hope you come see us again.

    Love,
    Caroline

  32. Hey Gracie,
I guess you noticed. We’re letting the GA’s write e-mails and then we will send them to you. We’re going to try to let them to that once a month. It was Ms Glenda’s idea. She’s so good.
It’s normal to have mixed feelings about happy to be their but missing things here. It will get easier, but more than that you will get stronger. “The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and give you peace.”
I love you my MK sister.
    Karen

  33. Hey, Gracie Lou! Brandon is auditioning for Mulan tonight at Little Theatre. This Saturday, he was invitited to come to God & Country Theatre in Branson to learn and perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Valentine’s Day! He has to be there at 8:30 in the morning and then will perform it that night! He’s been busy!

    How is school?
    Love,
    Susie

  34. Dear Gracie,
I miss you so much! GA’s isn’t the same without you. Also, I can’t believe that Lottie Moon is as tall as I am. What do you think about your new home and school? Do you have some new friends? Did you have a Valentine party at your new school? I am sending you a Valentine in the mail. You should get it next week.

    Jenni 🙂

  41. Gracie,

Cynthia was so excited to get to see you and talk to you on the webcam at Stephanie’s.

Are you getting really excited about being in Africa in a few short days?

Keep a diary each day, and someday you will have a wonderful book to write.

    Love,

    Martha Templeton

  42. Gracie, Gracie, Gracie, I just read your mother’sblog about your trip to Washington, DC. I am soooooo proud of you. You are already not just an MK, but a missionary. To share your faith with a stranger on the metro was really showing God how much you love Him and care about telling everyone you see how He loves them too. I was so happy when you phone me from wal-mart. To hear your voice made me happy and sad all at the same time. I’m happy you get to go to Africa, but sad I won’t see you for a long time.
I pray for you girls and your parents everyday asking God to protect you, keep you healthy and to be able to love and share ‘the good news’ with all your new friends in Lasotho.
    Love you lots, Delinda

    Bekah

  53. Gracie, I’m a friend of your Aunt Codi and I just want you to know you are on our prayer list. I was very impressed when I found out that y’all have a NAIL SALON set up for the little girls. I can just hear their giggles as they get their nails “done up!” and what a wonderful way to have an opportunity to share God’s love for them.

    Nokie and girls

  58. Hi Gracie,
You all have all kinds of pets! I’m glad your mom isn’t the squeemish type. I remember “collecting” all kinds of creepy crawlers for Charlie and Sam when they were younger and putting them in jars so they could examine them up close. Then we’d release them. I also had an ant farm for my Kindergarteners when I was teaching. It was cool to watch the ants working together. One can learn a lot from an ant! Love you girls, Dalia

  59. Stephie and I just read your blog. Yeah. We are kind of slow. She is staying at our house tonight. We love your pet story. Stephie wants to know if you have horses and what are their names? We know you have ridden some. Loved the picture of you and the goat. Jeff has wanted to get goats here for a long time to clean up our brush. Let us know how it goes for you when the goat ministry starts. Still praying for you.
We love you. Aunt Kay Kay and Stephie

  72. Hi, Gracie!
Well, you finally got some snow, even if it wasn’t much, just enough to keep you from your dentist appointments!

I love seeing the pictures, and how you are inter-acting with the people there.

Are you keeping a daily journal? I could see it becoming a great book someday.

    Love, Gene and Martha

  73. At the risk of showing my age, what is a TCK — my first guess was “Teen Chick” — but you are not quite a teen — and you said you don’t like chickens — so, ?????? — if it has something to do with those little things everybody is punching buttons to another little thing that someone else is absorbed in — spelling as I have always known it is in serious trouble!!!! Please explain —

  74. Gracie,

You are such a wonderful young lady. It sounds like you are going to have a fun year of learning. I can’t wait to hear about the exciting projects you do for school.

    Love,
    Susie

  75. I’m glad everything went well in Johannesburg — I guess you were glad to get back home to the mountains — As I told Anna — I miss seeing you and playing “spoons” or other games — I love you so much!!!! Hugs & Kisses — Mam-Maw

  76. Hey Gracie Lou! I miss you SOOO much! You are the best friend anyone could ask for….. just sayin. I love you lots! Tay

  77. Gracie,

You are beautiful in the wedding pictures. Was it much like an American wedding? The bride was very pretty. I’m anxious to see more pictures!

We love you and pray for you every day.

    Martha Templeton

  78. Gorgeous!!! You are making a lovely teenager!!! Red has always been “your color” — I know Tsepo must consider all of “family” to include you in his wedding — I love you!!! Mam-Maw

  79. The pictures of the wedding have been so special. It is neat to see you guys having such great friends over there and being a special part of their lives. You guys are such a special part of ours so we guess we’ll share you! 🙂 You looked beautiful in your dress.

  80. I love you and miss you my GraciLacie but im so proud of you!!!!

  81. I get to see you soo soon you will always and forever be my best friend! Love you bunches!

  82. Hi, Gracie.
I have being talking about your family and ministry to children in Puerto Rico. They’re excited to know about young missionaries. It would be interesting for them to see a recent photo of you. Could you post one for me to show them?
God bless you! We’re praying for you!
